On Tuesday, the Congress party released its third list of candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, naming 16 individuals, including Dharam Pal Lakra from the Mundka constituency. Lakra, who recently joined the Congress, marks a significant addition to the party’s roster. This brings the total number of candidates announced by Congress to 64 out of the 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly.
Among the 16 candidates announced, former Union Minister Krishna Tirath will contest from Patel Nagar, and current councillor Ariba Khan has been fielded from Okhla. In a notable change, the Congress replaced Pramod Kumar Jayant with Ishwar Bagri for the Gokalpur (SC) constituency.
The third list also includes candidates for other crucial constituencies, such as Rajesh Gupta from Kirari, Kunwar Karan Singh from Model Town, Prem Sharma from Hari Nagar, Harbani Kaur from Janakpuri, and Mange Ram from Palam. Additionally, Jitender Solanki will contest from Vikaspuri, Sushma Yadav from Najafgarh, and Vishesh Tokas from RK Puram. Other candidates in this list are Rajiv Chaudhary from Vishwas Nagar, Kamal Arora from Gandhi Nagar, Jagat Singh from Shahdara, Bheesham Sharma from Ghonda, and Ishwar Bagri from Gokalpur.
Candidates Set To File Nominations
Several Congress candidates are further expected to file their nominations on Wednesday, continuing the momentum of candidate selection. Notably, Congress leader Alka Lamba submitted her nomination from the Kalkaji constituency on Tuesday. Lamba, who will face Delhi Chief Minister Atishi from the AAP, is one of the key figures in the Congress campaign for the upcoming elections.

Key leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), including Atishi, are also anticipated to submit their nominations on Wednesday, marking a crucial step in the electoral race.
Election Date Announced: Voting On February 5
The Election Commission has confirmed that voting for the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections will take place on February 5 in a single phase. A total of 1.55 crore voters are expected to participate, comprising 83,49,645 men, 71,73,952 women, and 1,261 third-gender individuals. The election results will be announced on February 8.
With the announcement of the election date, the ‘Model Code of Conduct’ has come into effect in Delhi. The code mandates that government resources cannot be used for election campaigning and requires police permission for all election rallies. This ensures a fair and transparent election process, free from undue influence.
As the election campaign heats up, all political parties, including Congress, are preparing to engage voters across Delhi, making these next few weeks crucial in shaping the outcome of the upcoming assembly elections.
