Hospital Vandalism

The recent act of vandalism at Kolkata’s R G Kar Medical College & Hospital, where a woman doctor succumbed to tragic rape and murder, has raised serious concerns among Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials.

The central agency overseeing the investigation fears that vandals may have compromised crucial evidence during the attack.

The incident took place shortly after midnight on Wednesday when a mob forcefully stormed the hospital and wreaked havoc in the emergency department.

This alarming situation has led CBI investigators to suspect possible tampering with evidence, particularly regarding the seminar room, which is likely to be the crime scene.

According to sources, the CBI quickly reached out to senior officials of Kolkata Police to verify whether the vandals had accessed the seminar room.

However, city police officials have assured the agency that the room remained secure and unaffected by the vandalism.

Despite these reassurances, social media posts soon after the incident heightened the CBI’s concerns by suggesting that vandals had also targeted the seminar room.

In response, Kolkata Police issued a statement urging citizens not to spread unverified information and emphasized that the crime scene remained intact.

The police also warned that legal action would be taken against those responsible for spreading rumors.

Earlier in the week, the Calcutta High Court ordered a CBI investigation into the rape and murder case, expressing dissatisfaction with the progress made by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) previously handling the matter.

The court, led by Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharya, mandated a court-monitored probe by the CBI to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation.
