Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, signalling renewed momentum within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over cabinet expansion and electoral planning in the state.
The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s official residence, carries political significance as the party sharpens its strategy for the 2027 Assembly elections.
According to sources, the discussions covered a broad range of issues, including governance initiatives, ongoing development projects and organisational restructuring within the BJP’s Uttar Pradesh unit.
With the state playing a crucial role in national politics, both leaders are likely to have reviewed administrative performance and future policy priorities.
One of the central themes of the meeting was the long-pending expansion of the Uttar Pradesh Council of Ministers.
Speculation around a cabinet reshuffle has intensified in recent weeks, particularly after Pankaj Chaudhary was appointed as the new state BJP president.
His appointment has paved the way for broader organisational changes and adjustments in government representation.
Party insiders suggest that the cabinet expansion is likely to take place shortly after the Makar Sankranti festival, expected around January 14–15, 2026.
The reshuffle is likely to balance regional representation, accommodate new faces and strengthen the government’s outreach ahead of the next Assembly polls.
Beyond the cabinet exercise, the BJP is also preparing to initiate appointments to various commissions, boards and councils in the state.

Talks With JP Nadda Expected
After meeting the Prime Minister, Chief Minister Adityanath is likely to hold talks with BJP national president JP Nadda later in the day.
The meeting will likely further deliberate on organisational matters and finalise timelines for the anticipated changes.
The series of high-level consultations underscores the BJP’s intent to enter the next electoral cycle with a refreshed leadership structure and a clear governance roadmap for Uttar Pradesh.
