A Historic Step For Elderly Welfare

CM Gupta called the day historic, emphasising the impact of the scheme on senior citizens’ well-being.

She lauded PM Modi’s role in bringing the Ayushman scheme to fruition and underlined the scheme’s universality, available even to non-taxpayers.

CM Gupta also highlighted that the scheme is a key part of the BJP’s electoral promises and aims to offer respect, justice, and empowerment to elderly residents of Delhi.

Scheme Details & Benefits

The Ayushman Vay Vandana Scheme offers cashless medical treatment at over 100 hospitals within Delhi and 30,000 hospitals across other cities.

Citizens only need to be Delhi residents with an Aadhaar card to be eligible.

CM Gupta stressed that the scheme would cover a wide range of treatments, benefiting both financially stable and economically disadvantaged elderly individuals.

The government has rolled out the scheme in phases, starting with beneficiaries aged 70 and above, and expects it to reach around six lakh individuals.

CM Gupta also highlighted the new top-up coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh for senior citizens already covered by the AB PM-JAY scheme.

Registration for the scheme can be done via the Ayushman app, hospital visits, or through the beneficiary portal.

Political Context & Opposition Critique

CM Gupta criticised the previous AAP government for blocking the scheme’s introduction due to political differences, calling the launch a step towards inclusive healthcare.

She remarked that the AAP’s ego prevented the scheme from benefiting many elderly citizens earlier.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri also spoke at the event, praising CM Gupta for implementing the scheme within 65 days of assuming office.

He highlighted the scheme’s uniqueness, calling it the world’s first fully cashless health insurance programme.

Infrastructure & Future Prospects

The launch of this health insurance scheme is seen as a significant milestone for the BJP-led Delhi government, particularly after its victory in the mayoral election.

Hardeep Singh Puri also drew attention to the broader vision of PM Modi’s Viksit Bharat 2047, where healthcare plays a central role in the country’s development.

The scheme not only addresses the medical needs of the elderly but also strengthens the BJP’s political foothold in Delhi, aiming to deliver on promises made during the Assembly elections.

Delhi’s ambitious health insurance initiative for senior citizens marks a transformative moment in the city’s healthcare system.

With support from PM Modi and the active involvement of local leaders like CM Gupta, the scheme promises to enhance the quality of life for elderly residents, ensuring they receive the medical care they deserve.

This initiative is a testament to the ongoing efforts to strengthen social welfare in Delhi.
