CJI DY Chandrachud
A two-day regional conference on access to legal aid, organized by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), is being organized in the Supreme Court. In which CJI DY Chandrachud welcomed the judges of the foreign court in the Supreme Court of India on Tuesday (28 November). During this, CJI DY Chandrachud while addressing the program said that I am very happy to welcome the Chief Justices of the courts of Ivory Coast, South Sudan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Cameroon, Ghana, Botswana and Kazakhstan.
A two-day regional conference on access to legal aid is being organized by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). Key areas of discussion included developing effective examples of people-centred justice systems, measuring the quality of legal aid services, strategies to reduce pre-trial detention, prompt access to legal aid in criminal cases, legal aid.

More than 200 representatives are participating in this program. Which includes the Chief Justice of Bangladesh, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Eswatini, Maldives, Mauritius, Mongolia, Nepal, Zimbabwe and the Justice Minister of Kazakhstan, Nepal, Palau, Seychelles. Apart from this, representatives of South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and Zambia have also participated.
Let us tell you that earlier while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the program on Monday, Supreme Court Justice Sanjiv Khanna had said that legal aid has a functional role in strengthening the justice system and it needs to be understood beyond helping the needy. Addressing the session, Justice Khanna said that the role of government is important in promoting rule of law, access to justice and quality representation.
