Citizen Welfare Must Be At The Heart Of Reforms, Says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said citizen welfare must remain at the heart of all reforms, stressing that governance should be designed around people’s needs to drive meaningful transformation and accelerate India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.

According to a Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) statement, PM Modi made the remarks during a high-level review meeting at his residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg with the Cabinet Secretary and Secretaries of key Ministries.

The meeting assessed progress in rural development, agriculture, social welfare and allied sectors towards the Viksit Bharat goals.

The Prime Minister called for a whole-of-government approach to achieve national development objectives and said the vision of Viksit Bharat should become a Jan Andolan with India’s youth at its core. He also highlighted the need to address drug abuse among young people and suggested creating an institutional mechanism to break departmental silos and improve coordination on youth-centric initiatives.

PM Modi further stressed the importance of strengthening governance systems to keep pace with evolving needs and recommended comprehensive mapping of emerging requirements across Ministries and departments.

PM Modi advocated an integrated approach to sports development, saying India should aspire to host major international sporting events as sports tourism gains importance. He also emphasised the role of technology and startups in the sports sector.

The Prime Minister said wider adoption of the PM KUSUM Scheme could transform agriculture and called for global mapping of skill requirements to better align India’s workforce with international opportunities and future demands.

The Secretaries shared their experiences and challenges across sectors, while PM Modi offered suggestions on implementation, convergence and the future roadmap towards achieving the goals of Viksit Bharat, the PMO statement said.
