Chennai has deployed 15,000 police personnel under a five-tier security arrangement ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on Sunday, October 11. Authorities have intensified surveillance across event venues, transport hubs and designated routes.
The Greater Chennai Police have strengthened security at the airport, Porur Bypass Metro railway station, IIT-Madras campus in Kotturpuram, Chennai Trade Centre in Nandambakkam and Guindy Lok Bhavan, along with adjoining areas.
Police Commissioner A. Amalraj reviewed preparations with senior officers at the Commissionerate in Vepery on Friday. The meeting focused on security deployment and arrangements at locations scheduled for the Prime Minister’s visit.
The deployment includes additional joint, deputy and assistant commissioners of police, supported by personnel from the law and order, crime and traffic wings. Armed reserve personnel, commandos and Tamil Nadu Special Police units will reinforce the operation.
Police have intensified surveillance along roads earmarked for the Prime Minister’s movement. Officers are checking vehicles on major routes and inspecting lodges, guest houses, star hotels and other accommodation facilities to identify suspicious individuals.
Railway stations, Metro stations and bus terminals have also come under heightened security. The measures extend surveillance beyond event venues to busy transport facilities and surrounding neighbourhoods.
Meanwhile, police have designated areas around Meenambakkam, Guindy, Kotturpuram, Porur and Nandambakkam as red zones for October 10. Restrictions also cover routes identified for the Prime Minister’s movement.
Authorities have prohibited drones and other unmanned aerial objects from flying within these notified areas.
The comprehensive security plan combines personnel deployment, vehicle inspections and heightened surveillance across key locations and transport networks ahead of the Prime Minister’s arrival.
