Delhi On High Alert Ahead Of Jantar Mantar Protest; Metro Stations Closed, Borders Sealed

Delhi Police has heightened security across the national Capital ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday. Officers are checking vehicles at borders, monitoring sensitive locations and wearing body cameras to record potential incidents.

Authorities have strengthened security outside Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s residence and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s home.

Authorities have closed several Metro stations, including Supreme Court and Mandi House. Internet services have been suspended within a four-kilometre radius of the Janpath-Kartavya Path crossing for 24 hours from 10 p.m. on Friday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Anant Mittal inspected arrangements at the Aya Nagar border. He said officers were checking vehicles at inter-state and inter-district borders to prevent unauthorised entry into New Delhi and maintain public order.

Police have deployed drones and Rapid Action Force personnel at New Delhi Railway Station. Security marches are underway, while barricades and vehicle checks have intensified at Ghazipur and Badarpur borders. Heavy police deployment continues at Janpath Gol Chakkar, with barricades along Feroz Shah Road towards Mandi House.

In Ghaziabad, authorities strengthened security at Loni Gol Chakkar along the Delhi border. Delhi Police and Border Security Force personnel are inspecting vehicles, while CCTV cameras monitor the area. Additional Central Industrial Security Force personnel are guarding Gyanesh Kumar’s residence.

Despite the restrictions, passenger movement continued at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. One traveller told IANS that passengers faced no difficulties, although uncertainty had initially caused concern.

Gautam Buddh Nagar Police imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. The restrictions prohibit unauthorised gatherings of five or more people, processions, provocative speeches and misleading information. The order remains effective from Saturday until October 20.

Delhi has imposed similar restrictions ahead of the protest demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. Police have designated a 1.5-kilometre radius covering Jantar Mantar, Janpath, the Election Commission office and police headquarters as a highly sensitive zone.
