A large number of devotees gathered at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on Wednesday to take a holy dip on the occasion of Chaitra Purnima.

Since early morning, pilgrims continued to arrive at the confluence of the Ganga River, Yamuna River, and the mythical Saraswati River, undeterred by unfavourable weather conditions.

Devotees offered prayers, performed ritualistic bathing, and carried out charitable acts along the riverbanks.

Hindu belief holds that bathing in sacred rivers and donating essentials such as food and clothing on this day bring spiritual merit and carry high auspicious significance.

According to religious traditions, Chaitra Purnima holds immense significance as devotees seek purification from sins and blessings for peace, prosperity, and happiness. Many participants highlighted the importance of the holy dip and shared their prayers for well-being and global peace.

The day is dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu, with devotees observing the Satyanarayan Vrat and conducting special pujas either at home or in temples. Households also organise Satyanarayan Katha and distribute prasad among family and community members.

Timing of the Purnima Tithi

This year, the Purnima tithi began at 07:06 AM on April 1 and will conclude at 07:41 AM on April 2, with the fast observed and completed on April 1 due to the visibility of the full moon.

Devotees also offered Arghya to the Sun and later to the moon as part of the rituals.

For those unable to visit pilgrimage sites, traditions suggest adding a few drops of Gangajal to bathwater at home as a symbolic purification practice. The tradition also encourages acts of charity.

Religious lore associated with the Satyanarayan Vrat includes stories of a poor Brahmin attaining prosperity through devotion and a merchant regaining fortune after fulfilling a neglected vow.

The atmosphere in Prayagraj remained devotional throughout the day, with chants and prayers resonating across the ghats.
