The Union Home Ministry has requested a report from the Karnataka government regarding the suspicious death of a Dalit Sub-Inspector (SI), Parashurama, at his residence in Yadgir. Sources confirmed this action on Thursday, following a letter from Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje.
Karandlaje accused authorities of mishandling the investigation and urged the Home Ministry to intervene. In response, the ministry has asked for the investigation details and progress reports.

The death of the 35-year-old officer has sparked controversy, with his family accusing local Congress MLA Channareddy Patil Tunnur and his son of mental harassment. Parashurama’s family claimed he paid Rs 30 lakh for his posting at Yadgir City Police Station but was transferred to the cybercrime unit after less than a year. Allegedly, the MLA demanded another Rs 30 lakh for him to remain in his position.
Parashurama’s wife, Shwetha, filed a police complaint against the MLA and his son, holding them responsible for her husband’s death. In response, the Karnataka government announced Rs 50 lakh compensation and a government job for the SI’s family but denied handing the case over to the CBI.
The Karnataka BJP has sought the intervention of Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot. Leader of the Opposition, Chalavadi T Narayanaswamy, also wrote to the Governor, asking him to take cognizance of the situation and ensure justice for the deceased officer.
