Centre Engages Key Stakeholders In Consultations On Telecom Reforms

The Centre announced a second round of meetings with advisory committees and industry leaders to expand and shape the future of India’s telecommunication ecosystem. On Friday, Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia and Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani met with satellite communication, internet service providers, and infrastructure providers.

These meetings align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of inclusive and collaborative policy-making. Discussions focused on current regulations and the smooth implementation of the Right of Way (ROW) for a digitally connected India.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) stated that this initiative is crucial for engaging industry leaders in the telecommunication sector’s growth. The advisory committee on internet and infrastructure providers stressed the need for integrated governance and better cooperation from state governments and local bodies.

The DoT assured that the new rules under the upcoming Telecom Act would address many of the issues raised. The Communications Minister also urged industry stakeholders to actively provide feedback on the RoW rules.

The Advisory Committee on Satellite Communication shared their views on Indian space policy, spectrum allocation, and SUC. They suggested various measures to advance India’s position as a global hub for satellite communication.

To maintain a consistent dialogue with the government on telecommunication matters, Minister Scindia formed six distinct advisory committees (SACs). These committees, comprising top CEOs, academicians, researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders, will provide valuable insights to the DoT.
