CBI Serves Notice To K Kavitha In Delhi Excise Policy Case Ahead Of High Court Hearing

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday delivered a formal notice to K Kavitha concerning proceedings in the Delhi Excise Policy Case before the Delhi High Court.

A CBI team personally served the notice at her residence. Officials informed her that the agency’s petition will come up for hearing on March 16.

The notice clarified that she may present arguments opposing the petition on the scheduled date or on any later date if the matter is deferred.

Earlier this week, the Delhi High Court issued notices to multiple individuals connected to the case. These included former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, and around twenty other accused.

All had earlier received discharge orders from the Rouse Avenue Court. The investigative agency subsequently challenged that ruling in the High Court.

Kavitha confirmed receiving the notice through a statement on X. She stated that the notice arrived around 12:30 PM and that she has begun consultations with her legal advisers.

K Kavitha said her response will follow established legal channels. She also emphasised her willingness to cooperate with authorities.

Kavitha described the notice as a routine procedural step when an investigating agency files an appeal in a higher court. She urged observers not to misinterpret the action or undermine the integrity of the legal framework.

On February 27, the Rouse Avenue Court discharged all the accused in the case.

After the ruling, Kavitha said the judiciary had cut through what she described as a web of allegations and reaffirmed her faith in the justice system.

Kavitha, the daughter of K Chandrasekhar Rao, was arrested by the CBI and Enforcement Directorate in March 2024.

She spent over five months in custody before securing bail. She later resigned as an MLC and exited the Bharat Rashtra Samithi following disciplinary action.
