Madhya Pradesh patwari caught for taking bribe, swallows currency notes
In a complaint to the Jabalpur Lokayukta, Chandan Singh Lodhi of MP’s Barkheda claimed that Gajendra Singh had demanded a bribe in exchange for demarcating his grandfather’s land.
On Monday, a patwari in Katni, Madhya Pradesh, was caught by the Lokayukta Police accepting a bribe of ₹5,000. Gajendra Singh put ₹ 500 current notes in his mouth and started chewing them when he realized he was being pursued by the police. The patwari is in charge of keeping track of land transactions and collecting money from the villages.

Singh was also sent to a hospital for a checkup, but the officials there reported he was in good health.
According to reports, Singh swallowed the money after spotting the Special Police Establishment (SPE) of Lokayukta in the Katni village of Bilhari Halka, where he works as a patwari for the revenue department. According to Lokayukta SP Sanjay Sahu, the event happened after Singh accepted a bribe of 5,000 at his office.

Singh chewed up the notes in a trap that was set for him by a team of seven Lokayukta police officers. Singh is said to be booked under Prevention of Corruption Act.
