Anuj Chaudhary, a 34-year-old leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hailing from Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh, was tragically shot and killed outside his residence in Moradabad’s Parshwanath Housing Society, situated on Delhi Road. The horrifying incident unfolded on Thursday evening, as assailants on motorcycles fired several rounds of 315 bore and .32 pistol bullets, filling the vicinity near Majhola police station with the sound of gunshots.
CCTV footage captured the chilling moment when Chaudhary was walking outside his apartment with another individual. Suddenly, three assailants on motorcycles approached and shot him multiple times before quickly fleeing the scene. Despite the swift response from Chaudhary’s relatives and neighbours, who rushed him to Moradabad’s BrightStar Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

An active figure in local politics, Chaudhary was associated with the BJP Kisan Morcha and had close ties to prominent BJP leaders and ministers. Following his untimely demise, police officials, including SSP Hemraj Meena, arrived at the location. The police have initiated an investigation and registered a case against four suspects. To bring the assailants to justice, five police teams have been assembled to launch a thorough search.
Chaudhary’s family has attributed the murder to political adversaries and implicated two individuals, Amit Chaudhary, who contested the election for the post of Asmauli block chief in 2021 but lost, and Aniket, son of the woman who won block chief elections against him, in the incident. Anuj Chaudhary was often seen in the company of ministers and leaders from the BJP, and he maintained a close relationship with Uttar Pradesh’s Jal Shakti Minister, Swatantra Dev Singh. Notably, due to his ties with influential BJP figures, Chaudhary had previously informed Sambhal police about threats to his life and was provided with security personnel.
However, his security detail was reportedly withdrawn after the ruling party extended support to the current block chief. It was assumed that the two factions had resolved their differences and ended their rivalry, as stated by a police officer.
