Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah accused caste inequality defenders of killing Mahatma Gandhi. Speaking at the seminar “Mahatma Gandhi for the 21st Century” in Bengaluru, Siddaramaiah stressed Gandhi’s teachings still hold relevance.
He criticized how casteism deprives education and fuels inequality, noting even educated people are becoming more casteist. Siddaramaiah praised Gandhi’s commitment to peace and justice, urging society to embrace these values.
The Chief Minister warned of destruction without tolerance, citing Stephen Hawking’s fears of needing other planets for survival. He also condemned rising communal sentiments that threaten universal brotherhood envisioned by poet Kuvempu.
Siddaramaiah blamed human greed for environmental disasters, which Gandhi warned against. He criticized the belief in superstition and karma, despite Basavadi Sharana rejecting these ideas centuries ago.
The Chief Minister commended Jawaharlal Nehru for steering India toward scientific progress. He emphasized teaching Gandhi’s inclusive and nonviolent path to the youth.
Siddaramaiah also highlighted that 1% of the population holds 85% of the nation’s wealth and believes Gandhi’s principles can address this imbalance.
He pledged Karnataka will commemorate the Belgavi Congress session centenary meaningfully and reaffirmed the need to achieve village self-governance and ensure women’s safety.
