Cabinet Clears Plan Of ‘One Nation, One Election’

while NDA has majority in both the houses of Parliament, it is task to ascertain two-third support in either house. In total of 545 seats in Lok Sabha NDA has 292 while the calculation of two-third stands at 364. On the other hand, of 245 seats in Rajya Sabha, opposition has 85 while NDA has 112 seats.

One Nation One Election

In a major development in election practices of India, Union Cabinet in a meeting on Wednesday, accepted ‘one nation, one election report. BJP’s proposal of one nation, one election pushes simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly election with Panchayat polls taking place with 100 days. A panel led by the ex-President Ramnath Kovind prepared the report.

Prime Minister Narendra, time and again, has expressed his concern over the price India pay for remaining in election season over the year.  The committee headed by ex-President submitted the report in March this year.

“Simultaneous polls will help save resources, remove the impediments and help realise the aspirations of “India, that is Bharat”, the panel had said.

Opposition Rubbishes the One Nation One Election

In the after math reaction of report being accepted by the union cabinet following it was placed before cabinet by the panel, opposition expressed its dismay over the decisions marking it “not pragmatic and practical”.

Releasing party’s manifesto for upcoming Haryana Assembly, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge called it impractical and a stance to divert the public attention. He further affirmed that the proposal to alter the polls procedure will not succeed as people will not accept it.

Along with Congress, fifteen opposition party has rubbished the development.

Notably, the government will introduce the bill in parliament in winter session.
