Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired crucial meetings of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) at his residence today following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen.
The high-level meeting was aimed at assessing the national security landscape and determining India’s response.
High-Level Meetings Held
In addition to the CCS meeting, two other key cabinet panels, the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), also met at the Prime Minister’s residence.
These consultations highlight the government’s comprehensive approach in addressing both security and policy matters.
A formal cabinet briefing is scheduled for 3:00 PM today to inform the public and media of key outcomes.
Security Preparedness Reviewed
This was the second CCS meeting since the Pahalgam attack.
The first was held on April 23, shortly after the incident.
Today’s meeting focused on reviewing the security preparedness of the nation, with particular attention to the cross-border linkages of the attack.
Intelligence agencies indicated that the attackers aimed to destabilize the Union Territory after its peaceful elections and growing economic momentum.
Strong Message To Pakistan
The CCS had earlier condemned the attack in the strongest terms and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families.
During the latest briefing, the government announced a tough diplomatic and strategic stance, including holding the Indus Water Treaty in abeyance, a move aimed at sending a strong message to Pakistan over its continued support for cross-border terrorism.
PM Modi Reaffirms Trust In Armed Forces
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi chaired a separate strategic security meeting attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force- General Upendra Dwivedi, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, and Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh respectively.
Sources revealed that PM Modi expressed complete faith in the capabilities and judgment of the Indian Armed Forces, stating that they have full operational freedom to determine the nature, timing, and targets of India’s response to the terror strike.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to national security and pledged to take further steps to strengthen counterterrorism capabilities.
The CCS will continue to monitor the situation closely, while defense forces are on high alert.
The Pahalgam incident has further unified the government’s resolve to act decisively against forces threatening India’s internal stability.
