BSP Plans Nationwide Protest on Dec 24

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has announced a nationwide protest on December 24 over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s controversial remarks about Dr. BR Ambedkar in Parliament. The BSP claims the statements disrespected the architect of India’s Constitution, sparking widespread outrage.

BSP chief Mayawati, in a series of posts on social media platform X, condemned Shah’s remarks and emphasized Dr. Ambedkar’s enduring significance. She described him as a “super-humanistic” figure who crafted a welfare-oriented Constitution that safeguarded the rights and dignity of Dalits and marginalized communities.

“Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, revered as a godlike figure for his contributions to the self-respect and human rights of Dalits, cannot be disrespected. Amit Shah’s remarks have deeply hurt the sentiments of the people,” Mayawati wrote.

She further noted that anger is brewing across the country over the remarks, which she termed an insult to a “great personality.” The BSP has demanded an apology and a retraction from the Home Minister. However, Mayawati warned that if these demands are not met, the party would escalate its protests.

The BSP’s nationwide agitation will include peaceful demonstrations and sit-ins at district headquarters across India. Mayawati urged her supporters to participate and demand justice for Ambedkar’s legacy.

She also accused the BJP and Congress of hypocrisy in their treatment of Ambedkar’s contributions. “If they cannot genuinely respect Babasaheb, they should at least refrain from dishonoring him. His work secured dignity and rights for Dalits, Bahujans, and marginalized groups, a legacy that deserves utmost reverence,” she said.

Earlier this week, Mayawati demanded in a press conference that Amit Shah immediately withdraw his remarks. The BSP leader called for the government to honor Ambedkar’s historical contributions and avoid actions that undermine his legacy.
