BRICS Summit 2026: Xi Jinping Departs New Delhi Following Bilateral Talks With PM Modi

Chinese President Xi Jinping departed New Delhi on Sunday after attending the 18th BRICS Summit hosted by India at Bharat Mandapam.

Xi joined leaders of BRICS member states for a tree plantation drive during the two-day summit. He visited the Bharat Innovates Exposition at Bharat Mandapam alongside other BRICS leaders.

During his visit to India, Xi held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Both leaders highlighted the steady progress in India-China relations since their previous meeting in Tianjin in August 2025.

The leaders stressed the need to view bilateral ties from a strategic and long-term perspective. They agreed that differences should not escalate into disputes.

PM Modi emphasised that peace and tranquillity along the border remain essential for sustained bilateral development. He urged both sides to follow existing agreements and understandings on border issues.

Both leaders backed a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable settlement of the boundary question. They linked the process to the broader political relationship and the long-term interests of both nations.

The leaders welcomed progress in people-to-people relations and called for stronger cultural exchanges, business connections and greater mobility.

On trade and economic ties, PM Modi and Xi stressed the need to address concerns such as structural trade imbalances and supply-chain challenges. They further called for meaningful and predictable market access.

The two leaders agreed to expand common ground on regional and global issues.

PM Modi appreciated China’s support for India’s BRICS chairship and its contribution to the success of the 2026 summit.
