BRICS Summit 2026: PM Modi Warns Against Weaponisation Of Technology, Critical Minerals

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday cautioned global leaders against the ‘weaponisation of technology and critical minerals’ during the second day of the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam.

Sitting beside Chinese President Xi Jinping, PM Modi highlighted lessons from the Covid-19 pandemic and stressed the need for greater global resilience. He said pandemics, climate disasters and supply chain disruptions can affect every region in an interconnected world.

The Prime Minister said BRICS now brings together different continents, cultures and development journeys. He described this diversity as evidence of the grouping’s growing strength and global appeal.

PM Modi said India’s 2026 BRICS chairship turned the bloc’s shared vision into ‘win-win collaboration’ under the theme of resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability. He highlighted the BRICS Logistics Supply Chain Cooperation Framework, which aims to make supply networks more reliable and resilient.

The BRICS Incubator Network will connect startups and incubators across member states.

India has proposed a BRICS Startup Innovation Fund to support innovative and scalable solutions.

The BRICS Network on Digital Agriculture will link artificial intelligence, geospatial technology and digital public infrastructure with farmers’ practical needs.

Prime Minister Modi said India has promoted inclusive technology adoption because weaponising technology and critical minerals can obstruct common growth. He announced a BRICS Integrated Early Warning System for infectious diseases and new disaster management guidelines.

The ‘Early Warning Data Integration Guidelines’ will strengthen disaster preparedness and response.

Prime Minister Modi stressed that BRICS cooperation should extend beyond governments.

Entrepreneurs, farmers, researchers, women, youth and citizens should actively participate in the grouping’s initiatives.
