BRICS Summit 2026: PM Modi Meets Putin In New Delhi, Reviews Bilateral Cooperation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin in New Delhi on Friday, less than two weeks after their Bishkek meeting, and discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation.

PM Modi highlighted stronger trade ties, including implementing the Programme for Economic Cooperation 2030. He further discussed cooperation in infrastructure, energy, technology, defence and culture.

The two leaders exchanged views on major regional and global developments. Their discussions covered conflicts in West Asia and the Black Sea region, which have disrupted maritime trade and raised concerns over the safety of Indian seafarers.

PM Modi reiterated India’s readiness to support peace efforts and stressed that dialogue and diplomacy offer a way forward to resolve conflicts.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the leaders reviewed bilateral progress across political, economic, defence, energy, space, skill mobility and people-to-people sectors.

The leaders welcomed Russia’s International Industrial Exhibition, INNOPROM India, held in India for the first time from September 9 to 11, 2026. They underlined the exhibition’s role in expanding trade and industrial partnerships.

Prime Minister Modi and President Putin visited the exhibition and interacted with participants.

The leaders further discussed India-Russia cooperation in multilateral forums, particularly BRICS under India’s 2026 chairship. They agreed to maintain close engagement and strengthen their Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.

The relationship has continued to expand despite geopolitical uncertainties, demonstrating resilience across strategic and economic fronts.
