Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, held bilateral talks at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Saturday ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit.
The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen cooperation across key areas, including defence, trade, digital technologies and semiconductors. Their meeting provided an opportunity to review the progress of India-Malaysia relations and explore new areas of collaboration.
PM Anwar Ibrahim arrived in New Delhi on Friday to attend the 18th BRICS Summit. Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh received the Malaysian Prime Minister at the airport.
The Ministry of External Affairs welcomed Anwar and highlighted the longstanding ties between India and Malaysia. It said bilateral cooperation has expanded across trade, investment, the digital economy, defence and security. The visit builds on the momentum generated by PM Modi’s visit to Malaysia earlier this year.

India is hosting the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12-13 as BRICS Chair 2026. The bloc has 11 members, while Malaysia is among its 10 partner countries.
During his India visit, Anwar is scheduled to travel to Kerala to meet the Grand Mufti of India. He said the meeting would provide an opportunity to exchange views on community development, education and religious affairs.
Anwar said he would hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan and Ethiopia during his visit. Following his India trip, he is scheduled to travel to the Maldives for an official visit at the invitation of President Mohamed Muizzu.
The India-Malaysia meeting comes as both countries seek to expand cooperation across strategic and emerging sectors while strengthening their broader bilateral partnership.
