Prime Minister Narendra Modi undertook an extensive series of diplomatic engagements as India hosted the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

PM Modi’s Summit Itinerary

Over the three-day programme, PM Modi conducted 15 formal bilateral meetings with visiting heads of state and government while participating in several informal interactions.

The Prime Minister additionally held pull-aside discussions with global leaders and heads of international institutions attending the summit and the Outreach/BRICS Plus Dialogue.

PM Modi began his bilateral programme on Friday afternoon with a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at Bharat Mandapam. He subsequently held separate discussions with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres later that evening.

These engagements formed the opening phase of the Prime Minister’s intensive diplomatic outreach during the summit.

On Saturday morning, PM Modi travelled to Hyderabad House to meet Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali for bilateral talks. He then held separate meetings with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung.

PM Modi later welcomed BRICS leaders arriving at Bharat Mandapam and addressed the closed-door session on ‘Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism’.

A key engagement followed with Chinese President Xi Jinping before PM Modi hosted the visiting leaders at a gala dinner at Bharat Mandapam.

On the final day, PM Modi met leaders from BRICS partner countries and Outreach Invitees before participating in a family photograph.

The Prime Minister then held consecutive bilateral meetings with Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Philippines President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye, Nigerian Vice-President Kashim Shettima and Ugandan Vice-President Jessica Alupo.

PM Modi used intervals between the formal meetings to interact with participating leaders and senior representatives of international institutions.
