BJP’s Old Friend Wishes To Come Back In Alliance After Shocking Public Mandate Of Karnataka Polls

After the elections of Karnataka, many parties have got revelations about their status in the nation and the state itself. While Congress registered a remarkable victory, many parties got a lot lesser seats than their expectations. One of those parties is JDS (Janata Dal Secular) and they are fairly disappointed with the performance of the Party. Therefore, Janata Dal Secular, which was earlier an alliance of BJP is willing to form an alliance once again with the Centre ruling party. JDS just won 19 seats out of 224 in the Karnataka elections of 2023.

Janata Dal Secular and Bhartiya Janata Party

JDS is led by former Prime Minister of India HD Deve Gowda along with his son HD Kumaraswamy. According to the sources, the party only holds a chance of defeating Congress if they form an alliance with BJP. They have allied in the past as well.

The two parties have formed a coalition government in Karnataka in 2006 with Mr. Kumaraswamy as Chief Minister and Mr BS Yediyurappa as his deputy, under a 20-month power-sharing formula. The coalition was short-lived as the JDS did not transfer power to BJP.

Indicators of the JDS and BJP alliance

The strongest indicator of all is that Deve Gowda actually supported the Railways Minister, Ashwini Vaishnav after the Odisha Train accident. While the opposition was asking Mr. Ashwini to resign from the post, Mr. Gowda said, “The Railway Minister has taken all necessary steps to restore the damage that happened. He is working tirelessly. Let the inquiry be completed. The minister is doing his best and demanding his resignation at this stage is not wise.”

In addition to this, JDS was one such exception who did not oppose the inauguration of the new parliament. Deve Gowda has also snubbed the offer of Anti-BJP alliance by saying, “”I can analyse in detail about this country’s politics, what is the use? Show me one party which has not associated with the BJP, either directly or indirectly. Show me one party in the whole country, then I will answer,” Mr Gowda said to a question on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s efforts to corral non-BJP parties.”
