Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Madhya Pradesh president Prabhat Jha has passed away at a Delhi hospital on Friday at the age of 67.
Jha’s sudden health deterioration two weeks ago led to his airlifting from Bhopal to Delhi, where he was receiving treatment until his demise.
Jha, originally from Sitamarhi in Bihar, was a significant figure in Madhya Pradesh politics.
Known for his forthrightness and ability to connect with party workers on a personal level, he was a revered leader within the BJP.
His tenure as Madhya Pradesh BJP president from 2010 was marked by a concerted effort to revitalize the party’s base in the state, a period when the BJP was working to consolidate its position.
His leadership was instrumental in restructuring the party’s cadre during his two-year term.
Beyond his role as state president, Jha also served as a Rajya Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh on two occasions.
Despite stepping back from prominent roles in recent years, he remained actively engaged with party workers and continued to be a respected figure in BJP circles.
The news of Jha’s passing however has elicited heartfelt tributes from across the political spectrum.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, state BJP Chief V D Sharma, and other party leaders have expressed their condolences, reflecting on his significant contributions to the party and the state.

Taking on X, Chief Minister Yadav mourned Jha’s death, stating, “We have received the deeply saddening news of the passing of Shri Prabhat Jha Ji, former State President and senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party in Madhya Pradesh.”
He further added, “May Baba Mahakal grant the departed soul a place at his holy feet and provide the bereaved family with the strength to endure this severe blow.”
“Your significant role in the development of Madhya Pradesh will always inspire us. Your passing is an irreplaceable loss to the political world,” Yadav added.
