The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal has raised concerns regarding the circumstances surrounding Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent accident, advocating for a reassessment of her security measures. Following claims that Banerjee fell at her Kalighat residence on Thursday due to a push from behind, she was promptly transported to SSKM hospital, where images shared by her party depicted significant injuries, including a bleeding wound on her forehead. Notably, no formal police complaint has been lodged regarding the incident.
The director of SSKM hospital, Manimoy Bandyopadhyay, clarified on Friday that his earlier statements were misinterpreted, emphasizing that Banerjee had felt a sensation akin to being pushed before falling. After receiving treatment, which included three stitches on her forehead and one on her nose, Banerjee’s condition was reported as stable. Hospital officials assured that she received thorough care overnight, with continuous monitoring by senior medical personnel, and further assessments were scheduled.
Banerjee’s injuries included a cerebral concussion with a deep cut on her forehead and nose, leading to profuse bleeding upon her arrival at the hospital. She underwent evaluations by specialists from various departments, including neurosurgery, medicine, and cardiology, with necessary procedures such as stitching and dressing performed. Additionally, diagnostic tests like ECG, echocardiogram, CT- scan, and Doppler were conducted to assess her overall health.
Numerous political figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, extended their wishes for Banerjee’s speedy recovery. PM Modi expressed his prayers for her well-being, to which Banerjee responded with gratitude for his support and good wishes.
