The deliberate use of such words reflects the elitist, anti-poor, and anti-tribal nature of the Congress party. I demand that the Congress party apologize unconditionally to the Honorable President and the tribal communities of India.”

The controversy erupted following President Draupadi Murmu’s address in the joint session of both Houses of Parliament on the first day of the 18th Lok Sabha’s budget session. During discussions on the speech, Sonia Gandhi referred to President Murmu as ‘poor,’ a remark that sparked backlash. Additionally, Rahul Gandhi, her son, criticized the President’s speech, calling it ‘boring.’
BJP Leaders React
BJP leaders quickly labeled Sonia and Rahul Gandhi’s remarks as deeply insulting. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with other BJP members, condemned the comments, asserting that they were an affront to both the poor and the tribal communities.
In response to the growing controversy, the press secretary of Rashtrapati Bhavan also weighed in, condemning the Congress leaders’ statements as an insult to the dignity of the President of India.
