BJP Leader Pramod Yadav Fatally Shot in Jaunpur By Unidentified Assailants; Investigation Underway

Pramod Yadav, a prominent BJP leader, fell victim to unidentified assailants who shot him dead in UP’s Jaunpur district.

Pramod Yadav, a prominent BJP leader, fell victim to unidentified assailants who shot him dead in the Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. The incident unfolded near the Bodhpur village turn under the jurisdiction of the Sikarara police station in Jaunpur.

The attackers, under the pretense of delivering a ‘card,’ intercepted the 55-year-old Pramod Yadav and fired three shots before fleeing the scene, leaving their motorcycle behind. Despite being promptly rushed to the hospital, Yadav, who served as the Jaunpur district unit president of BJP Kisan Morcha, was declared brought dead by the attending doctor.

Jaunpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajaipal Sharma confirmed that multiple investigative teams have been deployed to track down the assailants. The initial inquiry has yielded crucial leads, and the authorities are actively pursuing further investigations.

Pramod Yadav, a key political figure, had contested the 2012 assembly elections from the Malhani seat on the BJP symbol against Jagriti Singh, the wife of former MP and influential figure Dhananjay Singh. Notably, Dhananjay Singh was recently sentenced to seven years in prison by an MP/MLA court in connection with a 2020 kidnapping and extortion case. The conviction renders him ineligible, under the Representation of the People Act, to participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Jaunpur.

Additional Sessions Judge Sharad Kumar Tripathi, who found Dhananjay Singh and his associate Santosh Vikram guilty in the kidnapping case of Namami Gange project manager Abhinav Singhal, imposed a fine of ₹75,000 on each of them. This recent development has significant implications for the political landscape in Jaunpur.
