A tragic incident unfolded in Patna as clashes erupted between protesters and the police during a demonstration against the Bihar government’s teacher postings. Vijay Kumar Singh, a prominent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, lost his life during the unrest at Dakbangla Chauraha in the city.

After sustaining injuries, Singh was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, medical authorities declared him dead upon arrival. The news was confirmed by Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Modi, who took to Twitter to express his condolences and announce the BJP leader’s demise.

The confrontations between BJP leaders and law enforcement occurred during a ‘Vidhan Sabha March’ organized by the party. Security personnel responded with baton charges, water cannons, and tear gas to disperse the protesting BJP workers.

Reacting to the incident, BJP Chief JP Nadda expressed his outrage on Twitter, blaming the state government for the violent clash. Nadda accused the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) government of undermining democracy to protect corrupt practices. He further criticized the Bihar Chief Minister for compromising his own moral standards to shield individuals facing charges.

Meanwhile, consequent to the unrest, the Bihar Education Department issued an order imposing a one-week ban on leaves for education department officials. The directive specifically suspended the leaves of district education officers, district program officers, and other officials. It further stated that officials in the education department would need to seek permission from Deputy Secretary KK Pathak for exceptional circumstances requiring leave.
