Amid preparations for the forthcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched its statewide ‘Parivartan Yatra’, which will culminate in a mega rally addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Brigade Parade Ground in central Kolkata on March 15.
The yatra formally began on Sunday, with nine separate rallies starting from different locations across the state on Sunday and Monday.
The campaign aims to cover all 294 Assembly constituencies before concluding in Kolkata.
Party leaders confirmed that there will be no rallies on March 3 and March 4 due to the observance of Dol Yatra and Holi. The campaign will resume on March 5 and continue until it reaches every constituency in the state.
A member of the BJP’s state committee said the yatra would officially conclude with the Prime Minister’s rally on March 15, although the final schedule remains subject to confirmation by the Prime Minister’s Office.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will launch one of the nine ‘Parivartan Yatra’ rallies at Raidighi in South Parganas district on Monday after party leaders postponed the event by a day.
It remains unclear whether he will attend the concluding rally in Kolkata, where the Prime Minister will be the main speaker.
Senior BJP leaders, including Shivraj Singh Chouhan, J.P. Nadda, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Dharmendra Pradhan, Smriti Irani and Devendra Fadnavis, will join different phases of the campaign.
Through the statewide yatra and the Prime Minister’s mega rally, the BJP aims to consolidate support and build momentum ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections.
