Jammu & Kashmir Poll

As the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections approach, the BJP is ramping up its campaign efforts in the region. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to address multiple rallies across Jammu on Saturday, ahead of the second phase of voting scheduled for September 25.

This phase will cover 26 constituencies in five districts, including Reasi, Rajouri, and Poonch in the Jammu region, as well as Srinagar and Budgam in the Kashmir Valley.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi kickstarted the BJP’s campaign for this phase on Wednesday, holding rallies in Srinagar and Katra. He previously campaigned in Doda for the first phase on September 14.

BJP sources indicated that the party is focusing on the Jammu region, where it aims to secure a majority of its targeted 43 seats. In the 2014 elections, the BJP won 25 of its seats from this area.

Amit Shah is expected to arrive in Jammu on Friday evening and will spend the night at a guest house. His schedule for Saturday includes rallies in Rajouri at 11:30 a.m., Thanamandi at 2 p.m., Surankote at 3 p.m., Mendhar at 4:45 p.m., and Akhnoor at 6:15 p.m. before returning to New Delhi.

The BJP is contesting the J&K Assembly polls independently, while the Congress and National Conference have formed a pre-poll alliance covering 83 seats, with an allocation of 31 for Congress and 52 for National Conference. The remaining seats are reserved for allies CPI-M and the Panthers Party, with some constituencies resulting in a “friendly fight.”
