The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh has conducted a thorough evaluation of the performance of ministers and legislators who faced defeat in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
The UP BJP has compiled the report and will submit it this week for consideration by the party’s central leadership.
UP BJP President Bhupendra Chaudhary and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gathered feedback from concerned ministers, as disclosed by a senior party official speaking on condition of anonymity.
This feedback will constitute a significant portion of the report.
The loss of seats for the BJP in Uttar Pradesh holds significant implications as the party had entrusted ministers with responsibilities across the 75 districts and 80 Lok Sabha constituencies.
The party assigned the ministers to oversee the progress of development projects and welfare schemes within their respective constituencies. They were also responsible for leading the party’s campaign efforts.
Despite this, none of the ministers reported any major lapses in implementation or detected any widespread disenchantment among voters towards the party or the government.
Blaming The Blame Game: Defeated Candidates Point Fingers At Party Internal Issues
However, several defeated candidates have pointed fingers at internal issues within the party.
Rajvir Singh, who lost from the Etah constituency, alleged internal sabotage by certain party members.
Similarly, Raghav Lakhanpal, the BJP candidate from Saharanpur, criticized the party’s campaign strategy, claiming it backfired and led to the loss of crucial votes from Dalit and OBC communities.
Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, who lost her bid for a third term from Fatehpur, also expressed suspicion of sabotage within the party ranks.
Criticism has also been directed at the party’s allies, such as the SBSP and Nishad Party, whose failure to secure votes from their respective communities has raised questions about their relevance to the BJP’s electoral strategy.
The sentiment among BJP leaders is increasingly leaning towards taking decisive action against those responsible for the electoral setback.
Sakshi Maharaj, who secured victory for the third consecutive term from Unnao, emphasized the need for stringent measures against those who undermined the party’s efforts.
Finance Minister Suresh Khanna attributed the defeat to overconfidence among party leaders and cadre. He highlighted the need for a reevaluation of campaign strategies and booth management tactics to avoid similar setbacks in the future.
The BJP’s tally in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh saw a notable decline, falling to 33 seats from the 62 secured in the 2019 elections.
This decline has prompted introspection within the party ranks, with leaders emphasizing the importance of addressing internal issues and recalibrating electoral strategies to regain lost ground in future elections.
