Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s recent remarks comparing Hindu seers to mafias have ignited a political firestorm. BJP leaders have sharply criticized Yadav, accusing him of insulting Sanatan Dharma. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala alleged that the INDIA Bloc’s hidden agenda is to disrespect Hindu beliefs to win votes.
Key Reactions to Yadav’s Comments
During a press conference in Lucknow, Yadav claimed there is no difference between Hindu seers and mafias, highlighting issues with false encounters under the BJP administration. This statement has been met with widespread condemnation.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak slammed the Samajwadi Party for allegedly defending criminals and disregarding religious institutions. He accused the party of showing more interest in protecting mafias than respecting temples and monasteries. State Minister Sanjay Nishad also defended Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, accusing Yadav of misusing police forces during the Samajwadi Party’s tenure.
Seers Decry the Comparison
Yadav’s comments have drawn strong criticism from seers. Mahant Durga Das of Shri Panchayati Akhara Udasin Nirvana called the comparison “highly condemnable” and stressed the revered status of Hindu seers. Mahant Yogesh Puri Maharaj of Shri Mankameshwar Temple in Agra questioned Yadav’s past actions and criticized his party’s stance on religious issues.
Both BJP leaders and religious figures have condemned Yadav’s remarks, viewing them as a serious affront to the sanctity of Sanatan Dharma.
