BJP Backs Amit Shah’s Stand On Illegal Infiltration In West Bengal

The BJP has endorsed Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s claims on illegal infiltration in West Bengal, accusing the Mamata Banerjee government.

BJP Supports HM Amit Shah, Slams Mamata Govt Over Infiltration In Bengal

The Bharatiya Janata Party strongly supported Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on illegal infiltration in West Bengal.

Accusing the Mamata Banerjee government of prioritising vote-bank politics, the party emphasised national security concerns over political considerations.

Currently, HM Amit Shah is on a three-day official visit to Kolkata.

Addressing a press conference, HM Shah said, “If we come to power in West Bengal in 2026, our first task will not only be to prevent illegal infiltration but also to drive away the illegal infiltrators who are staying inside the state currently.”

HM Shah warned that his party’s priority would be to stop infiltration and remove illegal infiltrators currently residing in West Bengal.

Highlighting administrative lapses, HM Shah accused the Chief Minister of ignoring multiple requests to allot land to the Border Security Force for fencing along the Bangladesh border.

“I have sent seven letters to the Chief Minister on this issue of land allotment to the BSF. There had been three secretary-level meetings in West Bengal on this particular issue. My question is why the West Bengal government is reluctant to allot land for barbed fencing even after that. Now the BSF is accused of not being able to stop illegal infiltration. In the absence of proper barbed fencing, how would BSF be able to put in place effective border security at the borders?” HM Shah asked.

BJP Demands Answers From State Government

Responding to HM Shah, the BJP said these allegations raise serious concerns and demanded answers from the state government.

Speaking to IANS, BJP National Spokesperson Rohan Gupta said any government prioritising vote-bank politics over constitutional duties will not earn the people’s trust.

Spokesperson Rohan Gupta said, “HM Amit Shah has raised a very serious question against the West Bengal government. If any state government prioritises vote-bank politics even on such constitutional issues, I believe the people of West Bengal will never accept such politics.”

“The Home Minister is right that the Bengal government complains about the infiltrators, and to solve this, when the Centre asks for the land for fencing, the state refuses. The Bengal government should answer this,” he further added.

BJP MP Manan Kumar Mishra reinforced the Home Minister’s position and stated that the Centre is actively removing infiltrators across India.

Speaking to IANS, Manan Mishra said, “Regarding infiltrators and terrorists, Naxal activities and other such threats, Home Minister Amit Shah is very serious. He has now resolved that, whether it is West Bengal, the Northeast or any corner of the country, infiltrators will be removed.”

Additionally, HM Shah dismissed claims by CPI(M)-led Left Front and some Congress leaders suggesting a secret understanding with the BJP.

Instead, he accused the West Bengal government of not only failing to act against infiltration but also of allegedly sheltering illegal entrants within the state.

Finally, political analysts expect the issue to remain a significant flashpoint ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.
