BJP Announces 111 Candidates In Second List For West Bengal Elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday released its second list of candidates for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. The party named nominees for 111 additional constituencies in the two-phase polls.

With this announcement, the BJP has declared candidates for 255 seats in the 294-member Assembly.

The first list, issued on March 14, included 144 constituencies. The party is yet to finalise candidates for the remaining 39 seats.

Uncertainty persists regarding the three hill constituencies, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Kurseong.

The BJP may either contest directly or allocate these seats to its ally, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, founded by Bimal Gurung.

The second list includes notable figures from the entertainment sector.

Actress and former Rajya Sabha MP Roopa Ganguly will contest from Sonarpur (Dakshin), facing Lovely Moitra of the Trinamool Congress. Actor Hiran Chattopadhyay, a sitting MLA, shifts from Kharagpur (Sadar) to Shyampur.

Meanwhile, Dilip Ghosh will contest from Kharagpur (Sadar). Actress Papiya Adhikari will fight from Tollygunge.

Former MP Arjun Singh will contest from Noapara, while lawyer Kaustav Chattopadhyay will represent Barrackpore. Former Union Minister Nishith Pramanik will contest from Mathabhanga.

The BJP has retained most sitting legislators, signalling continuity and electoral strategy refinement.
