The Bihar government has announced a major overhaul of the state’s education system, including a plan to recruit 1 lakh teachers over the next five years.
Under the new roadmap, around 20,000 teachers will be appointed every year.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said recruitment advertisements would now be issued annually in July to streamline and regularise the appointment process.
The announcement followed a high-level meeting held at the Chief Minister’s residence in Patna, attended by Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari and senior officials of the Education Department.
The Chief Minister directed the Education Department to prepare a transparent and simplified teacher transfer policy.
Under the proposed system, female teachers would be transferred to panchayats adjacent to their home panchayat wherever possible. The transfers would take place within the same block and district.
Male teachers, meanwhile, would be transferred to blocks adjoining their home block within their home district.
The government said the move is aimed at making postings more practical and family-friendly while ensuring transparency in transfers.
The government also announced that school uniforms for students across Bihar will now be supplied through Jeevika Self Help Groups.
Officials said the initiative would ensure the timely distribution of uniforms. They added that it would create livelihood opportunities for women associated with the self-help network.
During the review meeting, the Chief Minister reiterated that providing quality education to every child remains a top priority.
The reforms are aimed at improving educational infrastructure, increasing teacher availability, and promoting inclusive development across Bihar’s school system.
The announcement comes amid recent protests by BPSC Teacher Recruitment Examination aspirants demanding fresh teacher recruitment notifications in the state.
