Among the 18 districts, Begusarai led with 59.82%, Muzaffarpur followed at 58.40%, and Gopalganj at 58.17%. Lakhisarai reported 57.39%, while Madhepura saw 55.96% turnout.
Other districts recorded the following participation rates: Bhojpur 50.07%, Buxar 51.69%, Darbhanga 51.75%, Khagaria 54.77%, Munger 52.17%, Nalanda 52.32%, Saharsa 55.22%, Samastipur 56.35%, Saran 54.60%, Sheikhpura 49.37%, Siwan 50.93%, and Vaishali 53.63%.
Patna, the state capital, recorded a lower turnout of 48.69%, reflecting a slower pace of voting compared to other regions.
In key constituencies, Raghopur recorded 55.20%, Mahua 52.11%, Alinagar 51.17%, Tarapur 55.33%, Lakhisarai 55.47%, Chapra 50.88%, Bankipur 34.80%, Phulwari 54.12%, Raghunathpur 50.63%, Siwan 51.65%, and Mokama 55.12%.
The first phase will determine the fate of several senior political figures, including RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, BJP’s Samrat Choudhary and Mangal Pandey, and JD(U) leaders Shravan Kumar and Vijay Kumar Choudhary. Tej Pratap Yadav is also contesting in this phase.
In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, polling occurred in three phases. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured 125 seats, while the opposition Mahagathbandhan (MGB) won 110.
Among major parties, JD(U) won 43 seats, BJP 74, RJD 75, and Congress 19. The JD(U) contested 115 constituencies, the BJP 110, the RJD 144, and the Congress 70.
Polling for the first phase began at 7:00 AM and will conclude at 6:00 PM, though some constituencies have curtailed voting to 5:00 PM for security reasons.
The remaining 122 constituencies will go to the polls in the second phase on 11 November. The counting of votes for both phases is scheduled for 14 November.
The first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections is crucial for both ruling and opposition alliances.
The voter turnout trends in districts such as Begusarai, Muzaffarpur, and Gopalganj will set the tone for the remaining phases, with close attention on key constituencies where senior political leaders are contesting.
