The counting of votes for all 243 constituencies in the Bihar Assembly election began at 8 a.m. on Friday, taking place under extensive and carefully coordinated security arrangements.
Officials started the process with the scrutiny of postal ballots, followed by the counting of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) votes from 8:30 AM.
Officials have implemented a stringent, multi-tier security setup across the state’s 46 counting centres in 38 districts.
The Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) mans the innermost layer surrounding strongrooms and counting halls, ensuring maximum protection for the sealed EVMs and VVPATs.
Moreover, the Bihar Police and district police personnel have taken charge of the outer security perimeter, regulating movement and maintaining law and order around the venues.
Officials have deployed over 106 companies of security forces brought in from outside the state to reinforce security operations.
Strongrooms have remained under continuous 24/7 CCTV surveillance since the completion of polling, with candidates and their agents allowed to monitor the security arrangements outside the inner restricted zone.
District Officials Review Preparations
Gayaji SSP Anand Kumar confirmed that officials have completed all preparations and have protected each strongroom with a three-layer security system.
He said officials have secured all entry points and sensitive areas with adequate CAPF deployment.
In Bhojpur, Superintendent of Police Raj said officials have installed security barricades across the district, including in subdivision areas.
“We have deployed eight CAPF companies to ensure smooth law and order management,” he added.
Bhagalpur Municipal Commissioner Shubham Kumar stated that counting is underway for the Gopalpur, Bihpur, and Sultanganj Assembly seats.
He further confirmed that officials have assigned a magistrate to every counting location and are granting entry to candidates’ polling agents as per protocol.
The Election Commission has appointed 243 Returning Officers and 243 Counting Observers to oversee the process, while more than 18,000 counting agents nominated by candidates are present across centres to monitor proceedings.
Officials restrict entry into counting halls to individuals carrying valid passes, and they strictly prohibit the use of mobile phones inside counting areas to maintain integrity and order.

The Election Commission has also urged the media and public to follow only official sources for verified updates.
Real-time trends and constituency-wise results are being published on the ECI’s official results portal and the Voter Helpline App.
These measures reflect the Commission’s commitment to ensuring fairness, transparency, and credibility throughout the final and crucial stage of the electoral process.
