Bihar Cabinet Expansion Talks Intensify After CM Samrat Choudhary Meets Nitish Kumar

Samrat Choudhary met former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Patna on Wednesday, soon after returning from Delhi, in what signals a politically significant interaction ahead of the anticipated cabinet expansion in the state.

Nitish Kumar received him warmly, and the meeting comes at a time when discussions around the expansion of the Bihar cabinet have intensified.

During his recent visit to Delhi, CM Choudhary held key meetings with top Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Nitin Nabin. He also visited the headquarters of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

Sources indicated that CM Choudhary held multiple discussions with Nitin Nabin regarding Bihar’s political situation and the proposed cabinet expansion. The process has, however, been temporarily put on hold, with no final date yet decided for the swearing-in ceremony.

The central Bharatiya Janata Party leadership is currently managing assembly elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, which has led to a packed schedule.

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary will also seek final approval for ministerial appointments after meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Discussions over portfolio allocation with alliance partner Janata Dal (United) remain unresolved, contributing to delays.

Sources suggest that the expansion could now take place after the announcement of election results in other states.

Meanwhile, administrative matters were also on the agenda, with a cabinet meeting held at 6:00 PM on April 22, 2026, at the Main Secretariat in Patna.

The Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, along with senior officials, attended the meeting.
