The stage is set for a decisive day in Bihar as officials begin counting votes for the Assembly elections on Friday.
With elaborate arrangements in place, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has implemented all protocols to ensure transparency and accuracy across the state.
Officials will conduct counting in all 243 Assembly constituencies, with a Returning Officer (RO) supervising each location.
The ECI has deployed 243 Returning Officers and 243 Counting Observers to oversee the process in the presence of contesting candidates and their authorised agents.
To manage the large volume of ballots, officials have further set up 4,372 counting tables across Bihar.
A counting supervisor, assistant, and micro-observer will man each table to ensure a thorough and unbiased process.
Over 18,000 counting agents, nominated by candidates, will monitor proceedings to verify fairness at every stage.
The process will begin at 8:00 AM with the counting of postal ballots, which include votes cast by service personnel and others permitted to vote remotely.
The counting of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will commence at 8:30 AM.
The ECI has instructed officials to complete postal ballot counting before the final round of EVM counting begins.
During EVM counting, officials will display the Control Units to the counting agents to verify intact seals and match serial numbers with those recorded in Form 17C (Part I).
They will cross-check all EVM vote entries with Form 17C data, and if they find any discrepancy, they will mandatorily count the VVPAT slips from the concerned polling station to ensure complete accuracy.
Once the main EVM counting concludes, a random selection of five polling stations per constituency will undergo VVPAT verification.
Officials will also match the slips with the recorded EVM results in the presence of candidates and their counting agents, reinforcing the integrity of the process.
Returning Officers will compile and declare the final results round-wise and constituency-wise. The ECI will publish the official results exclusively on its results portal.
The Commission has urged the public and media to rely solely on the official portal for verified information and has cautioned TV channels and digital platforms to maintain accuracy in reporting, warning against the spread of misinformation.
