Bhutan PM Tshering Tobgay on 5-Day India Visit
Bhutan’s Prime Minister, Dasho Tshering Tobgay, embarked on a significant five-day official visit to India, marking his inaugural overseas trip since assuming office in January 2024. His arrival in the national capital saw a warm reception, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcoming him at his official residence, located at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. The Bhutanese PM was greeted at the airport by Union Minister of State for Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Ashwini Choubey.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, expressing gratitude for the visit, emphasized its significance in strengthening the longstanding friendship between the two nations. Jaiswal’s sentiments were echoed in a social media post, where he extended a cordial welcome to PM Tobgay and highlighted the enduring bond between India and Bhutan.
Accompanying the Bhutan PM are notable officials including the Foreign Affairs and External Trade Minister, Energy and Natural Resources Minister, Industry, Commerce, and Employment Minister, along with senior officials from the Royal Government of Bhutan.
During his stay, Tobgay is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu and engage in bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Additionally, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and other Indian dignitaries will have the opportunity to interact with the visiting Prime Minister.
The itinerary also includes a visit to Mumbai, further underscoring the multifaceted nature of the bilateral engagement between Bhutan and India. This visit serves as a platform to assess the progress of their unique partnership and explore avenues for further cooperation and collaboration.

This visit reciprocates the frequent exchanges at both political and official levels, a testament to the enduring friendship and cooperation shared between India and Bhutan. Notably, Prime Minister Modi’s past visits to Bhutan in 2014 and 2019 have reinforced the special relationship between the two nations, characterized by trust, goodwill, and mutual understanding.
