Director General of Information, Banshidhar Tiwari, participated in the Bharat Express conclave, ‘Naye Bharat Ki Baat, Uttarakhand Ke Saath’, held in Dehradun. He addressed several questions about the state’s policies and initiatives.
Tiwari explained how the Information Department bridges the gap between the government and the public. “We ensure accurate communication of government schemes to help citizens benefit,” he said.
He highlighted Uttarakhand’s new film policy to boost local and Hindi-language film production. The state increased subsidies for Hindi films to ₹3 crore and regional films to ₹2 crore. To qualify, 75% of the shooting must occur in Uttarakhand. Additional subsidies are available for showcasing Uttarakhand locations and including local artists.
Mukhyamantri Solar Swarojgar Yojana: Focuses on commercial solar energy production with a 55% state subsidy.
Pradhan Mantri Solar Ghar Yojana: Supports rooftop solar panels with a 70% subsidy from state and central governments. Excess electricity generated is sold to UPCL, reducing consumer bills and generating income.
He emphasized Uttarakhand’s plantation initiatives like the Harela and Phool Devta festivals. He praised the Prime Minister’s Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign for encouraging tree plantations.
Tiwari also spoke about preserving Uttarakhand’s architectural heritage. The revised housing policy promotes traditional mountain-style construction with a ₹1.5 lakh subsidy per unit. This initiative aims to revive the “Bakhal” or “Bakhli” style, preserving cultural identity.
Tiwari expressed concern over rising impatience and drug addiction among youth. He urged them to embrace humility, practice yoga, and stay focused on their goals. “Avoid anger and stay away from drugs,” he advised, emphasizing the importance of mental health and determination.
The conclave served as a platform for discussing Uttarakhand’s development and addressing pressing issues facing the younger generation.
