Who would have thought that the urge for a romantic getaway could get so intense that it would instigate murder? A similar incident from Karnataka has come to light where a 23-year-old man named Jaswanth, pursuing his B.Tech degree, was apprehended in Bengaluru, for allegedly murdering his 36-year-old aunt, Sukanya. The motive behind the crime was to fund a romantic Valentine’s Day trip to Goa with his girlfriend.
As per the police, Jaswanth frequently visited Sukanya. On February 11, when he visited Sunkanya, he sought money from her for car repairs. When she refused, he formulated a plan to kill her and steal her jewellery. Subsequently, Jaswanth strangled Sukanya, packed her body in a bag and disposed it in a secluded area near Electronic City. Following this he set the body on fire after dousing it with petrol.
Sukanya, married to Jaswanth’s maternal uncle, Narasimha Reddy, had two children.
Escaping to Goa with his girlfriend, the duo celebrated Valentine’s Day using Sukanya’s stolen gold chain. The disappearance of Sukanya led to police involvement, prompting the formation of a special team to investigate the case.
Jaswanth was traced to Goa, where he confessed to the crime during interrogation. He revealed planning the murder and purchasing a car beforehand for easy transportation of the body. The police arrested Jaswanth, recovered the stolen gold chain, and placed him in judicial custody.
