Bengal Town Gripped by Tension
In West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, the murder of Trinamool Congress leader Saifuddin Laskar and a subsequent lynching have escalated tensions. Laskar was shot dead outside his Joynagar home, leading to retaliation by his supporters who lynched a suspected murderer. This retaliation also saw several homes set ablaze, intensifying the situation.
Saifuddin Laskar, who headed the Trinamool unit in Joynagar’s Bamungachi area, was killed, triggering a political blame game between the ruling Trinamool and the Opposition CPM. Laskar’s wife, a panchayat pradhan, adds a layer of complexity to the incident.

The Trinamool, alleging CPM involvement, pointed fingers at the Opposition for the leader’s murder. As tensions rise, local Trinamool leaders claim CPM supporters orchestrated the killing, further fueling the political feud. Meanwhile, the police have made one arrest in connection with Saifuddin Laskar’s murder, emphasizing that the investigation is ongoing, with a registered case.
