In response to the ongoing Bangladesh crisis, security agencies have intensified patrols along the marine borders in West Bengal’s Sunderbans. The Border Security Force (BSF), Coast Guard, and coastal police are leading the effort.
The Sunderbans, spanning North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas districts, are high-risk areas for illegal immigration. Senior officials report that, in addition to the BSF and state police, the Forest Department’s experienced officers are now involved. They are familiar with the area’s narrow creeks and are helping with patrols.
Joint teams from the coastal police and Forest Department are stationed at key creek-to-river junctions, using advanced motorized boats. The BSF has increased its patrols with motorized boats, speedboats, and other vessels, intercepting and checking private boats and passengers for proper documentation.

The Coast Guard has deployed a hovercraft for continuous monitoring since there is a possibility of illegal intrusion following the Bangladesh crisis. All forces are equipped with advanced night-vision cameras and binoculars to address the increased risk of illegal immigration at night.
State police sources indicate that movement restrictions are in place for island villagers near the marine borders. Fishing has also been restricted at certain points, and residents are advised against climbing river embankments or staying outside after dark.
