Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the reach of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) as the flagship healthcare scheme completed eight years on Wednesday.
Shah said the scheme had emerged as a major health security measure for economically vulnerable sections, providing free treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh and extending coverage to more than 60 crore people.
In a post on social media, Shah said more than 13 crore people had so far benefited from treatment under the scheme. He further linked the initiative to the principles of Antyodaya and public welfare.

Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY launched on September 23, 2018, to expand access to secondary and tertiary healthcare.
According to government figures, the scheme had funded around 13.25 crore hospital admissions worth Rs 2.03 lakh crore as of August 31, 2026, through more than 38,000 empanelled public and private hospitals.
The government said Ayushman Arogya Mandirs had recorded more than 500 crore visits, strengthening access to primary healthcare.
The eighth anniversary marked with #8YearsOfAyushmanBharat, highlighting the expansion of healthcare coverage and the scheme’s reach among beneficiaries.
