Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Chief Minister-designate Atishi made a strong case for party supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Friday, asserting that his leadership is crucial for providing Delhi residents with a “better life and promising future” through free electricity and water.
At a press conference, Atishi condemned the Uttar Pradesh government for “burdening” residents, particularly in the National Capital Region (NCR), with increased electricity tariffs and prolonged power outages. She highlighted the “long power cuts and expensive electricity” as emblematic of the BJP’s governance model.
“The UP government has raised the price for a 5-kilowatt electricity connection from Rs 7,967 to Rs 17,365, a staggering increase of 250%. This BJP government imposed eight-hour power cuts during the summer months, affecting not just remote villages but also metropolitan areas like Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad. What does this say about the BJP’s electricity model?” she questioned.
Atishi emphasized the importance of re-electing Arvind Kejriwal as Chief Minister, warning that failing to do so could result in Delhi facing similar challenges as Uttar Pradesh. “If Kejriwal is not made CM, Delhi too will experience long power cuts and high tariffs,” she added.
Atishi will take the oath as Delhi Chief Minister on September 21, advancing the date from the originally planned September 26-27 after receiving an invitation from Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.
Additionally, she announced that Arvind Kejriwal will initiate a public outreach program starting next Sunday to connect with residents and seek their support.
