Rajya Sabha MP and former Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Dr Dinesh Sharma, called Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s memories a heritage that will guide future generations. Speaking at the Kavi Sammelan during the Atal Shatabdi Jayanti Year Celebration at the Sangeet Natak Academy, he highlighted Atal Ji’s unwavering dedication to the nation.
“Atal Ji put the nation first. He had no attachment to power and believed that principles and duty should always prevail,” Dr Sharma said. He recalled that Atal Ji’s government fell by one vote, but he refused to save it through unprincipled actions.
Atal Ji’s Vision Transformed Infrastructure
Dr Sharma credited Atal Ji for modernizing India’s infrastructure. “The new National Highways and modern roads reflect his development model. His dream of connecting rivers across India was a groundbreaking initiative,” he said.
He praised Atal Ji’s leadership during the Kargil conflict and the nuclear tests that boosted India’s global stature. He noted Atal Ji’s ability to balance simplicity and humanity while responding decisively to challenges.
A Leader Loved Across India
Dr Sharma highlighted Atal Ji’s popularity and cross-party respect. He recalled his iconic speech in Hindi at the United Nations, which strengthened India’s cultural identity. “Atal Ji united the nation, earning love and respect from Kashmir to Kanyakumari,” he said.
Dr Sharma also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for realizing Atal Ji’s dreams. He cited Modi’s efforts in providing tap water to the poor and building expressways as examples of fulfilling Atal Ji’s vision of a strong and modern India. “Prime Minister Modi has become Atal Ji’s true successor by delivering on his dreams for the country,” he concluded.
