Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Members of Parliament from Assam, including Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Pabitra Margherita, to review the prevailing flood situation in the state and reaffirm the Central government’s commitment to supporting relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Sharing details of the meeting on X, the Prime Minister said the discussion focused on the widespread flooding affecting several parts of Assam. He assured the MPs that the Centre is working closely with the Assam government to assist those impacted by the disaster and prayed for the safety and well-being of all affected residents.

The meeting comes as Assam continues to grapple with severe flooding triggered by persistent heavy rainfall.
Several districts remain inundated, disrupting normal life, damaging infrastructure and forcing thousands of people to leave their homes.
Relief and rescue operations are underway across the flood-hit regions, with displaced families taking shelter in relief camps set up by the state administration.
The Centre has deployed multiple agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), to assist local authorities in rescue operations, evacuating stranded residents and distributing essential relief supplies.
The Assam government continues to provide food, drinking water, medicines and other essential items to affected families while restoring damaged roads, electricity supply and communication networks in the worst-hit areas.
Authorities continue to monitor river levels and embankments as intermittent rainfall raises the risk of fresh flooding.
During the meeting, Assam MPs briefed the Prime Minister on the ground situation and sought continued Central support.
PM Modi assured them that the Centre would work closely with the state government to ensure timely rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts.
