Arun Vihar Residents Allege Electricity Supply Terminated Abruptly Without Prior Intimation

Residents of Sectors 28, 29 and 37, collectively known as Arun Vihar in Noida, have alleged that the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) disconnected electricity to nearly 300-400 households without issuing prior notice.

The disruption reportedly began on Saturday afternoon around 3 PM and continued until late at night, causing considerable inconvenience.

Locals asserted that the sudden outage affected families, elderly individuals, and children.

Many claimed they maintained surplus balances in their prepaid electricity accounts.

They rejected the suggestion that insufficient funds triggered the disconnection.

Several residents approached the local power house in Sector 29 to seek clarification and demand restoration.

Prashant Gupta, chairman of the Arun Vihar Residents Welfare Association (RWA), stated that the supply resumed late at night.

He clarified that the interruption did not result from a routine power cut. He added that residents initially relied on inverter backup for four to five hours.

Later, they realised that officials had severed the supply.

However, UPPCL officials refuted the allegations. They stated that the corporation did not suspend power to all residents.

They maintained that authorities only disconnected supply to consumers who carried negative balances in their prepaid accounts.

Officials claimed they sent multiple reminders requesting a recharge before taking action.

Dispute Over Prepaid Dues

Ritesh Anand, Superintending Engineer of the Electricity Urban Distribution Circle, Noida, asserted that the department issued several recharge alerts.

He stated that when consumers failed to respond, the system automatically discontinued supply.

He emphasised that once residents recharge their accounts, the electricity is restored automatically without manual intervention.

Some residents, however, expressed scepticism. They contended that many affected households possessed adequate balance.

They also reported that officials later described the incident as a technical glitch linked to the prepaid system.

RWA representatives insisted that the department must ensure transparency and timely communication to prevent similar occurrences.

The episode has intensified concerns regarding accountability in utility services.

Residents have demanded a thorough review of the incident.

They have urged authorities to adopt clearer communication protocols and safeguard consumers from abrupt disruptions.
